Thank goodness it's finally spring. Maybe this year I'll be better about posting to my blog!

I love spring...it makes you forget about how winter gets to be a big pain in the ...

The trees are blooming, the daffs and tulips are up and the goldfinches are at the feeders again. All is right again in my world!

Speaking of right again, my daughter and her husband are moving to NJ. They both have taken new jobs in the Princeton area and are now looking for a house.

Yup, all is right in my world!

So, Thanksgiving is past news, Christmas, as wonderful as it was, is history and it's now January of 2005. It was just the turn of the new century...what happened?

I'm going to try and do better with this blog this year. If I don't then I'll pack it in.

My hubby and I attended the Arthur Murray Dance Studio Annual Halloween Part and, we won 1st Place for our costumes. Our costumes tied in so well with my gardening passion, we were flower children! Someone actually asked me if I was born in the 60's...My answer, YES! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Dancing In Atlantic City

Well, I found out what my teacher thought about our dancing! Carlos, apparently thinks I did okay 'cause he has us dancing in 12 different catagories in the upcoming Arthur Murray Competition in Atlantic City. The competition takes place from 12/3 to 12/5 with Arthur Murray students and professionals from all over the USA plus some international competitors. After only four months of lessons I'm really getting gutsy, 12 dances...As before, Fred and I will be dancing with our instructors so they have us scheduled for double lessons each week from now until the competition. I'm okay with all of this, it's really not hard at all to get on the dance floor as long as other couples are there with you. Actually, it's really fun! So, the next few weeks is going to be focused on dancing. Since my allergies have been driving me nuts so I can't be cleaning up the garden for fall, I might as well be dancing!

Dancing In The Night Part II

Well, we're well past the "spotlight" dance that turned out to be two dances and we moved on to the big dance day. To my great surprise and relief, it turned out to be the best time ever! It was much easier than the Friday night dance because we were on the dance floor with other couples. I figured my chance of having the judge see mistakes was low with all the other people on the floor. Just like before, we danced with our instructors and, we had the best time! It was a long day, 9 am to 10 pm. We started with a continental breakfast, moved on to dancing the waltz and foxtrot, ate lunch, and danced the rhythm dances: rhumba, cha cha, tango, samba, swing etc. Of the rhythm dances we danced the rhumba and swing. We both received strong scores from the judges but didn't receive any trophies. We just didn't dance enough of the different dances to have a high enough cumulative score. Four dances the first time out was plenty and it gave us an opportunity to watch some of the advanced dance couples. The group dancing was local with dancers from three Arthur Murray studios, a total of about 50 people. The dancing concluded at about 6 pm and a lovely dinner dance followed. The setting and size was perfect for our first exposure to the dance world as we're starting to explore it. In the beginning of December there's a competion in Atlantic City that brings in about 3,000 dancers. We are thinking seriously of dancing in December but realistically we'll have to add many more dances and increase our dedication to this new passion to have even a remote chance at a trophy. Now's the time to make that commitment, we're still "newcomers" which I think gives us extra compassion points from the judges! My instructor, Carlos, says not but I think he's also being kind. How mean spirted would it be to judge a beginner harshly? Pretty mean plus, it would certainly discourage the beginner and might follow that the beginner would rethink the expensive lessons. That would not be a good thing for Arthur Murray Studios...
Our next lessons is tomorrow so we'll see what Carlos has to say!

Dancing In The Night

In an effort not to look foolish when dancing at our daughter's wedding in July, my husband and I signed up for dance lessons with "Arthur Murray". We loved it and have signed up for more! So, with several months dancing behind us we'll be dancing in a "spotlight" tonight at the monthly Friday evening dance party. We'll be dancing with teachers so it's not tooooo bad.... It does get worse, we've been talked into a competition on October 17th. I'm the "blend into the background" type so this is big. We dance only 1 dance tonight which is a mercy. On the 17th we'll be dancing four: rumba, waltz, foxtrot and swing. I'm think I'm too old for the stress of competition but, as my husband told me, "I thought this was a part of life that passed me by and here I am LOVING dancing!" He's right! We'll compete against other beginners which should mean they will be uneasy too! At least thast' what I keep telling myself!

Well, the leaves in the White Mountains were beautiful. They certainly are worth the time and cost of going to see them. Tomorrow I'll try to post some pics of the trip including the beautiful place we stayed, The Wentworth Inn in Jackson, NH.

Hooray! We're going to go to the Green Mountains next week-end to see the beauty of the leaves changing. I've always wanted to take a week-end just for the leaves and finally we are! I'll take the camera and share at least a picture or two. I can't wait, hooray!

Fall Clean-Up

I don't know what's growing out there right now but my allergies sure let me know something is there! I spent all day yesterday pulling and cutting and had a dilly of an allergy attack as a result. Until I get my asthma under control the garden will have to wait a bit. Since I don't anticipate elves coming during the wee hours of the night to get the fall cleaning done I'm sure it'll be there for me next week!

Our granddaughter, Madeleine (Maddie) took her flower girl job very seriously. As she led the procession she presented flowers to lucky ladies seated on the aisle.

Heavy rains the night before and the
morning of the wedding had a impact
on the garden but only I knew what
blossoms were missing. Their garden
reception was perfection! Several years
of intense gardening, especially this year,
paid off. My garden was a beautiful setting
for celebrating their wedding!
